Introduction to Bedrooms

The residents own bedroom must not only be a safe and comfortable place for the individual, it also remains a place of work for the staff. Whilst maintaining legal duties and providing a safe and healthy environment, the care home needs  to be maintained as a pleasant place to live.  Residents may have varying degrees of independence and therefore different needs.  These differences need to be reflected in the design and layout of the home and the rooms and a flexible approach should not lead to lowering of standards, but to more relevant and appropriate provision, tailored to the needs of different groups/individuals.

You will need to look at :

  • housekeeping
  • slips, trips, falls
  • windows / doors
  • electrical equipment
  • safe furnishings
  • temperature / hot surfaces
  • lifting and lifting equipment
  • security
  • lone working
