CHIS – Our History

The Care Home Insurance Service (CHIS) started in 1997 providing insurance and risk related services to small care related businesses, predominantly those that are owner managed.

We were established as and continue to operate a family based firm, very similar to many of our care clients. We continue to pride ourselves on providing prompt and efficient service to all our clients. Our team see their role as being more than just 9 to 5 office employment, its closer to a way of life. CHIS started operating from a small office in Seaford, East Sussex. We have since expanded to two locations; one in Brighton, East Sussex, and the other in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

By mid-2007 we have some 1,850 clients with 2,300 care related businesses. We represent a premium spend to the insurance market of almost £5M, so carry reasonable weight within the insurance community and are able to execute some fantastic deals – combination of cover, price and service – on behalf of our clients.

We are regarded by the insurance community as being at the forefront of the insurance arrangements for care businesses. Most care providers to whom we are not currently their broker regard CHIS as their preferred alternative provider.

CHIS – The Company Ethos

As well as being committed to the home care sector, CHIS is also committed to charitable causes and what we consider to be good professional working practices. Our staff are encouraged to take part in charitable events and we make a monthly donation to charities of our choice through a CAF account. We have raised over £35,000 in the past three years for charitable causes. We also sponsor local sports teams as we believe in promoting a sense of community partnership.

Our staff are also all encouraged to take their professional exams and most do so, which ensures an improved knowledge and understanding of insurance and, so an improved level of professional service to all our clients. As a team we strive to achieve the highest possible levels of customer satisfaction and regularly work beyond the scope of our working hours and insurance related tasks for our clients.

Our committed philosophy is to provide the best quality and professional insurance service to our clients, while maintaining the integrity and support of our insurers.

Our clients' claims experience has consistently been well within insurers budgets and while this is all down to our clients, we also believe that our initial selection of clients has helped to achieve this consistent result.
